CDEA is one of the partners of the California Dance Network, an online resource for dancers, companies and teacher. The purpose of the CADN website is to strengthen, connect, unify and promote our state’s thriving dance field.
The website empowers the California dance community by gathering census data about the dance field (which is vital toward our efforts for a dance teaching credential), compiling state-wide and national news about dance, and providing online tools to promote dance events and activities.
It is vital that you your dance voice be counted and heard. You can easily create a dance profile. Just click on the link below.

VAPA Literature List - the committee work has concluded and the list is in the edit process. Once that work is concluded the 2008 LIterature List will be posted to the CDE website, available for public access.

Arts Work Toolkit - The hard copy or electronic copy of the toolkit, for the purpose of district evaluation of arts education program, continues to be available to districts. It is available in hard copy through CDE Press and electronically through MAP collaboration work. Please go to www.artsedcalifornia.com for further information.

New website for your use, in its infancy, much more to come within the next two months.  artsedcalifornia.com. It replaces TeachingArts.org.

National Arts Assessment Conference - Held October 21-22, 2008 in Los Angeles, hosted by California Department of Education was a sold out event, a conference geared to administrators and arts education leaders. James Popham, Margaret Heritage, Phil Martin, Scott Shuler and seven states contributed around arts assessment work and around the four art disciplines. The keynote speaker and the two panels have been videoed and will soon be available on the SCASS/Arts website for public access.

Eighth Grade Arts Mastery Test: Music - this test will be available for districts to utilize in time for end-of-year assessing spring 2009. If a district would wish to "pilot" the test, please contact Armalyn De La O at adelao@csusb.eduThe visual arts, theatre and dance tests will be available for the 2009-2010 school year. For further questions regarding this test, please contact Nancy at ncarr@cde.ca.gov. The Eighth Grade Mastery Test will be posted later this school year on the web at www.artsedcalifornia.com and is accomplished work through the California Arts Assessment

Two separate postings are available at the CDEA website, one about 2007-2008 funding and the required reports, another about 2008-2009 funding.

The Yard, an artists’ colony on Martha’s Vineyard is currently accepting applications for our 2009 Bessie Schonberg Professional Choreographers’ Residency, the 2010 Dance Company Residency, and internships in various areas. Auditions for dancers for the Bessie Residency will be held on February 28 – March 1 in New York City.

Please pass this information on to any artists, educators, or arts administrators you think might be interested.

This intensive focuses on the interdisciplinary practices and research of improvisation, exploring the concerns of contemporary performance and culture. The program offers participants diverse improvisational skills, weaving principles of Body-Mind Centering®, Action Theatre, Contact Improvisation, Voice, and Performance into a training that invokes curiosity, resilience, and dynamic presence.
