Happy May Day! Whether you are celebrating the arrival of spring or marching for workers’ rights (the 8-hour work day and fair labor conditions, where they exist, were generally hard won victories) we hope you enjoy your celebrations and that you get a chance to dance today.
Spring is about making plans for renewal and the NDEO and CDEA conferences in fall and winter are meant to renew and refresh you throughout your busy, committed years.
CDEA is once again pleased to announce our scholarship application process for members only. Awardees of the NDEO scholarship have their early bird or regular conference registration fees paid for. Travel and lodging are the responsibility of the attendee.
You might already be thinking about NDEO, the nation’s largest dance education-focused conference bringing the field of the art of dance and dance teaching forward with progressive movement, research and discussion sessions on all aspects of your program. Conference strands include PreK, Elementary, Middle/Secondary, Higher Ed, Studio and Dance Organization.
This year’s conference will span Sunday through Tuesday: Nov 12-14, 2017 with a pre-conference array of workshops all day Saturday. Get your rehearsal and teaching schedule covered for those days now!
The application process involves one click and answering six questions.
Deadline for NDEO Scholarship Applications is
Wednesday, MAY 31, 2017 at midnight.
Click here to be taken to the application, or read on for more details!
If you plan to attend NDEO and would like to take advantage of the early bird registration discount, please register for the conference with NDEO by MAY 31. If you are then awarded a CDEA scholarship, your registration will be refunded.
Students are welcome to apply.
We typically award 3-4 scholarships per year.
Deadline for consideration for the CDEA Scholarship to NDEO is May 31 at midnight.
Please click on this online application link where you will answer the following questions after putting in your contact information:
Are you presenting at NDEO? If yes, please tell us the name of your presentation and a brief description of the content.
How long have you been a member of CDEA?
Have you attended NDEO before? If so, how many times/which years?
You, the dance educator: What is your work in dance education at present and how would attending NDEO this year with its focus on advocacy, analysis and advancement of dance benefit your work and your community?
Financial need To what degree does financial need for registration costs determine your ability to attend NDEO? a. I potentially have funding from other sources available; b. I might have some funding available; c. I would have no funding for registration fees and would not attend without a scholarship.
Tell us what is unique about your work! For example: What different facets or sectors of the diverse California dance landscape does your work contribute to? Do you work with unique, underserved populations? Do you represent a dance style, or culture that brings new perspectives to CDEA & NDEO? Do you have a pedagogical practice that helps you stand out as an arts educator? Have you developed programs, coalitions, partnerships or led companies or advocacy efforts for dance in California? We want to know!
Thanks for sending in your applications. We generally ask previous recipients to wait three years before applying again but contact us if you have a question about that. We know some of you have funds available from your workplace, institution or district to cover conferences but many of our members do not. We want to encourage all interested members to apply.
All the best to you and Happy Spring!
