California Dance Education Association (CDEA) is a non-profit professional organization serving emerging, practicing and master dance artists, teachers and scholars through advocacy and professional development opportunities that advance dance as a performing art in diverse educational sectors and communities throughout California.
California Dance Education Association (CDEA) seeks to be the premiere statewide organization dedicated to fostering opportunities for high quality dance education. CDEA envisions providing responsive, multi-dimensional support for dance educators and dance artists in every sector, facilitating professional development and networking opportunities that strengthen the profession through creative and engaging pedagogical practices and building positive mutually beneficial partnerships with all key state agencies and stakeholders who are poised to effect change in the quality of dance education in California.
Our goals are focused on California dance but align with those of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), of which we are a state affiliate:
CDEA identifies and acts in constructive and strategic ways to positively shape public, social and education policy about and for dance in education in California;
CDEA promotes greater knowledge, appreciation, and support of the processes of dance education and promotes excellence in practice, performance, and presentation of dance in California;
CDEA plans and provides stimulating and forward looking professional development opportunities and supportive local networks for dance teachers and educators in California; and
CDEA acts as a clearinghouse and for issues directly related to the quality of dance arts education in dance studios, K-12 schools, higher education, teaching artist contexts and outreach programs of performing arts organizations in California.
