Layla Guest Adams
PRESIDENT ELECT

Layla Guest Adams (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, and educator from Long Beach, CA who holds a BFA in Dance from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), an MFA in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Dance from CSUEB. As an independent professional dancer, she has performed for Lucinda Childs, Donna Uchizono, Kerry Nicholls, Deganit Shemy, Jennifer Seigle, Helios Dance Theater, Meghan McCoy, and Jennifer Para. Her choreographic and theatrical work has been presented in theaters and festivals in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Brooklyn, New York City, London, UK, and Colchester, VT. As a scholar and researcher, Layla is interested in dance in popular culture and examining the lineage of current trends to understand their root forms and origins. She is also deeply committed to kinesthetic anatomy and neuromuscular re-education, having studied with Peggy Gould, protege of dance anatomist, Irene Dowd. Her additional training includes a Comprehensive Pilates Certification with a Dance Specialization and a 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Certification. She has been on faculty and served as a guest artist or artist in residence at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy's College of Performing Arts, Santa Barbara City College, Long Beach City College, Renaissance High School for the Arts (Long Beach), Wilson High School (Long Beach), Jordan High School (Long Beach), Brown Ledge Camp (Colchester, Vt), and Long Beach Unified School District's Migrant Education and Welfare-to-Work programs. She is currently the Dance Director at Flintridge Sacred Heart in La Cañada Flintridge, Ca, and lives in Los Angeles with her sweet husband and two beautiful and wild children.
